Solidarity Fund Information

ICMI Study 27, "Mathematics Education and the Socio-Ecological"

The nature of this relatively new, but growing area of mathematics education, and of an ICMI Study itself, requires diverse voices, experiences, and knowledges, produced in collaborations involving researchers, teachers, teacher educators, policy makers, and other stakeholders from diverse contexts and sites of education. Part of our commitment to inclusion involves the creation of a Solidarity Fund to offer partial support for registration and accommodation costs incurred during the Conference, to authors from countries classified as ‘developing’. All potential applicants are advised to apply for funding from other sources as well.

We plan to use the following criteria to order and hence prioritize any awards:

Following ICMI guidance, the applications received will be ordered taking into account the following criteria:

  • The economic situation of the applicant’s country of origin, according to the definition and classification of developing countries published by the IMU (https://www.mathunion.org/cdc/about-cdc/definition-developing-countries).

  • The relevance of the applicant’s participation in the conference, in terms of their implication in the conference’s activities and its benefits for the applicant’s country.

Applications should be submitted as part of your registration for the conference (with the same deadline of 1st November 2024). The following narrative must be included in the space provided in the registration form:

  1. State the nature of your contribution to the paper you submitted to the 27th ICMI Study Conference.

  2. Please indicate any other financial support you have secured or likely to receive or applied for to assist your participation at the 27th ICMI Study Conference.

  3. Describe how your work on the topic ‘Mathematics Education and the Socio-Ecological’ and your participation in the 27th ICMI Study Conference will benefit the mathematics education community in your region or country.
